TEST PILOT: Complete Nightmare 2014

WTP REASON

Bike Test: WTP Reason
Website: Wethepeoplebmx.de
Distro: Cyclingsportsgroup.co.uk

Who is the brand? We The People

About the bike:

I always think universally coloured bikes are a bit of a gamble (unless it’s black). You’d better hope that whoever your bikes are aimed at are going to like that colour, and white in itself is quite a bold statement, although fortunately the Reason does also come in black but still wit the white tyres. Style, however, is subjective and the look of this bike might be right up your street. Colour aside what we are left with is a typically WTP good quality complete coming in at £429 which is at the higher end of this batch of test bikes. The aspects of this bike I personally like are subtle but thoughtful. One is the that they have removed the paint from the bars where the stem bites which will help prevent slippage – a very common problem with completes, two, the slightly rounded off axles. It’s a nice touch, which just add some subtle quality to the bike, and three, it comes with plastic pegs which is the first time I’ve seen that on a complete. Aside from these bits you’ll find your usual array of Salt and Saltplus goodies, removable brake hardware as well as fully sealed everything and double wall rims. So despite the bold styling this bike is top notch and proves that WTP are still one step ahead of the game.

Who rides for them?

Ed Zunda, Dylan Lloyd, Dan Foley, Raul Ruiz, Andrew jackson, Max Gaertig, Chester Blacksmith, Maxime Chaveron, Mike Curley, Jason Phelan, Pete Sawyer.

What’s their history and where are the brand from?

WeThePeople was first started in 1996 in Cologne, Germany. Originally a bunch of friends making T-Shirts and selling them at comps and jams around Germany, we now make the bikes we ride. Almost 20 years later, we still operate and design all of our products from Cologne and focus on making the highest quality bikes, frames and parts possible. Backed up with one of the most solid teams in BMX, our number one passion is BMX and it’s that exact passion that drives us to create the best products for BMX.

What is the bike intended for, and who is it aimed at?

The Reason is our mid-range street/park weapon. Built up using a ton of aftermarket components like the super grippy Salt Pitch Slick tires, our new Fat Tripod Seat and a short offset SaltPlus HQ Fork, this bike is ready for the rider who wants a dialled reliable bike ready for both street and skatepark use. This year’s version even comes with a pair of Salt PRO Plastic pegs!

Words from team member Jason Phelan:

Riding for a company as good as Wethepeople is awesome and I never have any problems. I know that any part they make is going to hold up to any abuse I put them through, which is what you want when planning to do a big drop or something scary. The last thing you need is worrying about your parts breaking. I don’t have to worry.

What do the manufacturers say about it?

The Reason is always a model we try to do something different with. Following input from our team riders we tried to mimmic the actual bikes they were running so we added features like fat 2.35″ tyres and a harder 26t sprocket for stronger gearing. It’s the little features like this that really make the Reason standout from the rest. Besides, how rad do those white tires look eh?

What are the stand our features of the bike?

WHITE!

What is the geometry like and what is the weight of the bike?

Weight is nice, not too heavy but not like a feather and the geometry is good. I really liked the feel of it.

Is there anything that could be improved on the bike?

Maybe just tone down the white – the tyres will start to look old really quick. That’s all I can really think, it’s an all round good bike to ride and I can’t really fault it.

Favourite thing about this bike: I liked that it came with plastic pegs, that’s sick!

Jordan has such an effortless street style. Crankarm over like nothing.
