TEST PILOT: Complete Nightmare 2014

STLN Heist

Bike Test: Stolen Heist
Website: StolenBMX.com
Distro: Splitsecondimports.co.uk

Who is the brand? Stolen

Who rides for them? Ralphy Ramos, Sean Morr and Jackson Ratima

About the bike:

The Heist is a good-looking entry level complete. Available in Cammo green or this blue eggshell with chrome parts, you’ll find a bike with a 20.8tt and all the usual extra’s you’d expect on something in this price range. The 3-piece cranks look clean and tidy along side the 25T CNC’d chainring and the integrated seat/post combo also help to keep things tidy. One thing I noticed, which I wasn’t really a fan of was the ultra long rear axle. There’s so much excess that you’d struggle to find a socket deep enough to put a peg on. Aside from that, the bike rode well and despite it’s sub 21”tt it felt quite big, helped no doubt by the big bars.

What’s their history and where are the brand from?

Founded in 2001 by Anthony Revell, Stolen started out as an offshoot from Revell Bikes, a UK-based BMX / MTB race bike company. Anthony teamed up with USA based Dave Wootten and in 2003 they produced the first STLN complete.

What is the bike intended for, and who is it aimed at?

The Heist features geometry of a more aggressive street nature, compared to bikes lower in the range. It is aimed at intermediate-level riders who need the reliability of chromoly tubing and sealed bearings. The Heist marks the transition from entry-level to intermediate/top-end-level spec for older and more demanding riders. There are some significant upgrades over the previous model (Wrap) in the range, including fully-sealed hubs, full-chromo forks and a chromoly mainframe.

What are the stand our features of the bike?

The colour scheme stands out and looks quite cool.

What is the geometry like and what is the weight of the bike?

Geometry was actually sweet! Lightweight too.

Is there anything that could be improved on the bike?

There were a couple of chain issues and the headset came lose a bit, but they just needed tweaks. Other than that, it was a treat.
