BSD BACK STREET PRO HUB – REVIEW

Not everyone is on a freecoaster these days. I’m serious! For a while there it looked like the humble cassette was being overtaken, as every man and his dog got obsessed with going backwards. Companies rushed to get their coaster designs out to feed demand, but now it seems that balance has been somewhat restored and there are plenty of people and companies staying true to traditional hubs.

BSD is a Scottish BMX brand with one hell of a team. Their momentum can be traced along with the success of the riders who they sponsor – just look at Kriss Kyle, Alex D, Reed Stark, David Grant and Dan Paley. Some of these guys are almost brands in their own right. BSD has kept the fire lit with great products and arguably some of the best video content of any brand, thanks to the efforts of Dave Sowerby. Transmission, BSD’s feature length team video, is the perfect example of the kind of polished, highly considered video work Sowerby produces. Pair that strong brand image with a reputation for high quality parts, and you have a genuinely strong BMX company.

In terms of performance, you only have to look at Kriss Kyle and Luc Legrand. They both use this hub.”

BSD’s cassette hub is called the Back Street Pro, and is a solid bit of gear.

“We designed the Back Street Pro hub around our own custom driver with skip free mechanism while still maintaining a compact sized shell. With features such as bombproof 14mm female bolts, chromo cones, a massive female axle, hefty 6903 bearings and now also coming in male 14mm axle version you know this hub is built street tough…” –BSD

Looks wise, the Back Street Pro is dialled. Black or polished, that machined out BSD logo looks rad. It’s always cool to see something three dimensional rather than a screen printed or laser-etched logo.

In terms of performance, you only have to look at Kriss Kyle and Luc Legrand. They both use this hub. Say no more…
