ODYSSEY PATH PRO TYRE – REVIEW

Most of us out there will remember the Odyssey Path tyre. Pretty much a classic Odyssey product, it appeared in 2003 and was still knocking about in some lucky places until just a few years ago. If it felt sorely missed by a certain age group of riders, then luckily there’s a fresh replacement: the Path Pro.

Odyssey have got it dialled. Their product design has to be among the best in BMX, they’ve pioneered several technologies and seem to hold more patents in their inventions than many other brands. It’s been said that Odyssey (and their family of GSPORT and Sunday) are at the forefront of BMX product design, and we wouldn’t really argue with that.

Let’s take a look at the features of the Odyssey Path Pro tyre. It’s a directional tyre with smooth centre tread and micro-knurled side blocks. It’s made from a proprietary rubber compound – and knowing how Odyssey develop their products, this rubber must be something they’re quite proud of. They boast better grip and improved wear resistance with this rubber, which, as an added side note, gives the all-important squeak a lot of riders seem to look for.

The Path Pro comes in either 2.4” or 2.25” and, interestingly, the 2.4” is offered in two different pressure ratings. The standard version has a dual ply sidewall, rated to 100psi, whereas the lighter, low pressure version is good for 35–65psi due to its single ply sidewall.

The Odyssey Path Pro is a good looking tyre, too. A simple design, classic looks, great performance, fundamentally proven since 2003… You can’t go wrong.
