FLYBIKES RAMPERA RUBEN TYRE – REVIEW

The Flybikes Ruben tyre changed the game. This was the original fat tyre… It paved the way for the myriad of other fat tyres we see on the market today. The Ruben tyre is a legendary BMX part.

Flybikes began in 1999 in Vigo, Spain. A beautiful place! The guys have a crazy passion for BMX bikes and strive for perfection in how their products look and how their parts ride. There are some signature design aspects in Flybikes parts that let you know they’re part of the family as soon as you see them. From the little tree insignia to their clever and stylish design principles, Flybikes stuff is carefully dialled. The Flybikes team has always been strong, supporting some of the world’s most stylish and most progressive BMX riders, from icons like Ruben Alcantara and Sergio Layos to future legends Courage Adams and Devon Smillie.

“The Flybikes Ruben tyre changed the game. This was the original fat tyre…”

Ruben Alcantara is an undisputed legend of our sport. With a truly unique approach to riding, he has pushed boundaries and has deeply influenced the world of BMX. His inimitable riding style has seen him create some of the best regarded video parts of all time, while his creativity has produced not only an impressive catalog of signature bike parts, but also one of the best skateparks in the world – Malaga. What a hero.

The design of the Ruben Rampera tyre has been proven out in the field for many years. Apart from it starting the big tyre revolution, it also was the first tyre we saw with silkworm casing, which helps protect against punctures and needs less pressure to give the correct amount of tyre feedback.

There’s the aggressive claw-like pattern that fades into the sidewall, providing extreme grip when banked over. The smoother central pattern lowers rolling resistance while little triangular cut outs further enhance grip. Then there’s the micro knurling that won’t let you down on dusty or damp terrain… It all adds up to a classic tyre. No wonder these have been selling so well since their introduction.
