Mike ‘Hucker’ Clarke spent a few weeks on our shores earlier this summer, traveling around in Kye Forte’s tour bus, hitting the best trails and surf spots the UK has to offer. We caught up with him at Goodwood Festival of Speed to take a look at the bike he was riding while in the UK.
You’ve got some eye-catching graphics on this bike, tell us the story
behind that?
So back when we were working on my signature frame I went to see Dillon at S&M to talk about the graphics, I didn’t have a clue what I wanted, so he asked me to write down everything that came to mind, then we’ll figure something out from there.
I wrote such a long list, of everything that’s rad about growing up, riding and surfing in South California.
When he sent back the first draft I was like – holy shit! This is literally everything I wanted in one set of graphics.
Who did they get to do the art work?
It turned out Dillon got my really good buddy Nick Sawyers to draw them up. So I was even more stocked when I found out he got the job.
You’ve been running these graphics for a couple of years now. Any plans for a refresh?
Me and Chris Moeller have been talking about how we can improve things, so maybe we’ll start working on something soon.
Tells about the geometry of your signature frame. What specifics did you ask for?
Well I rode an AFT when I first got on S&M and it felt perfect to me. So I didn’t want my signature frame to feel too different to that. Moller and I just decided to make a few tweaks so it suited me even more. We changed the drop outs and made the top tube a little higher, so it feels a bit more old school.
Do you have any parts or modification you keep the same on every set-up?
Yeah I’m running ODI Longnecks, they’ve been a personal favourite of mine since I was a grom. I run my seat pretty high too, I always have fist of seat post between my saddle and the frame.
I’ve spotted a few people running your signature Demolition seat this weekend. You must be chuffed to see teammates choosing to ride your parts?
Yeah, It’s cool seeing my friends and idles running my seat. Like Chris Doyle and Kris Fox both have one. I see kids on Instagram running them too, it gets me phyced to know people are into it.
Any thanks?
First of all my sponsors, they allowing to live my dream and travel the world, riding this bike. Then of cause my family and friends for supporting me all the way.
