TOTAL SKINNIES PEGS – REVIEW

Total Skinnies are super lightweight metal pegs, obviously intended for the kind of peg tricks you might do on the lip of a quarter pipe.

Total BMX is a UK brand synonymous with high level ramp riding. Sponsoring some of the most influential ramp riders on the scene today, such as Alex Coleborn, Mark Webb, Nick Bruce and Kyle Baldock, Total is a brand deeply involved with BMX trick progression. Go to any major international BMX contest and you’ll see riders on Total gear pushing what’s possible. Total has remained a popular brand for clear reasons.

The ‘Skinnies’ are Total’s peg offering. Although I’m sure some people have successfully used them for some light street riding, these are primarily designed more for skatepark coping than crusty brick ledges.

“Total Skinnies, lightweight pegs intended for the kind of tricks you might do on the lip of a quarter pipe.”

With that in mind, the Skinnies have a diameter of 33mm. That’s how they get their name, they’re skinny! They’re four inches long, a nice standard peg length.

Made from heat treated 7075 aluminium, the weight of these pegs means that you shouldn’t feel too much of a difference in bike handling when putting them on. Clearly, the riders who are likely to run the Skinnies will already have quite light bike setups, and will want to keep that weight in check. If you’re running titanium spokes and kevlar tyres, but fancy the option of pegs for the occasional lip trick, you don’t want to go and put two big heavy steel pipes on your titanium profile axles (duh). In that respect, the Total Skinnies should be just the ticket – at only 83g each, they don’t add unnecessary weight.

The Skinnies are available in black or polished, with a classy little handwritten ‘Skinnies’ logo at the hub end. Available in 10mm or 14mm options, they should be ready for any kind of axle or bolt set up you might have. A simple, lightweight metal peg.
