When this cover dropped, the image quite rightly caused quite a stir and continues to do so, as it’s still not been fully explained, but it will be soon. When we knew we working on the final printed issue of Ride UK, my biggest headache was, “what the hell are we going to put on the cover?” We knew it had to do the past 23 years worth of great cover justice, but how do you plan for that? It was an unthinkably impossible task. But sometimes, when you’re in a corner trying to find an answer for something, they conveniently find you. When George Marshall, the legendary photographer, called me, his openeing words were, “I’ve got a photo to show you, it might work for the final cover, come to me though, I’m not emailing it…” I knew it must be serious. Then, the second George lit it up, I knew my prayers had been answered. Not only did we have the final cover shot, we had what is arguably one of the best covers we’d ever done.
Now’s your chance to let it get the credit it deserves. It’s part of the Red Bull Illume Quest 2016, an international competition dedicated to showcasing the best photographs and photographers in action sports. George is one of the best photographers I’ve ever met. He’s a purist, he doesn’t mess around with loads of post production, he just makes sure he gets the job done right when he hits the trigger and lets the photo, in its purest form, do the talking. This is a prime example.
Vote for George NOW, and let this photo get the credit it deserves.
