FRIDAY RANDOMS: 5 of The Best Roof Gaps

Roof Gaps are no joke. We all know the risks involved when people jump from building to building on their bikes. Personally it scares the shit outta me. I’ve never been good with heights in that sense and the whole falling to your death thing kinda puts me off, but these bunch of talented nutters have pulled off some of the craziest gaps in BMX history so why not take a look back and reminisce.

We’ll be dropping another roof drop compilation video in the near future and a few of these names are bound to crop up I’m sure, enjoy these for now…

#1 – Scotty Cranmer.

It had to be first didn’t it? It was the first roof gap that came to mind. I guess it’s purely because this is a crazy gap to start with and blasting a whip across it was so unexpected! Scotty Cranmer‘s riding was nothing short of mind-blowing for his Vans ILLUSTRATED part and left me completely stunned to say the least. Hit the link above if you haven’t caught it already, so good!

All of us here at Ride UK support #standwithscotty. We hope he has a speedy recovery!

#2 – Zack Gerber.

As far as roof gaps go, this one is pretty small. It’s not the height of the roof that is the issue here, it’s what trick being performed over said gap. A frontflip is totally out of the question one would think, right? But no, Zack Gerber is some sort of superhuman madman who decides to crank full speed at this roof setup and SEND IT! So stupidly good.

#3 – Sean Burns.

Sean Burns. What can I say? I’m pretty sure you will all be aware that he is basically the king of roof drops, gaps and basically anything which requires a huge set of balls to even attempt. This guy does things which most would look at and think “no fuckin’ way!” – Burns had to be in here, it’s a no brainer.

#4 – Van Homan.

The first time I saw this was back in 2001 when my mate Jamie showed me Little Devil – Criminal Mischief for the very first time. That video, along with many others released at the time had me hooked on BMX, such an influential and timeless video. This roof gap Van Homan amazed me then and still does now. Watch the video part below if you haven’t seen it before…

#5 – Lou Rajsich.

This gap in Blueprint was absolutely crackers! The video was filmed around 1998-2001 and Lou Rajsich‘s part was something else… During this gap there’s a slight mid-air element of fear which makes you think ‘will he make it or not?’ – Of course he did. Lou pulled this mental roof gap off with plenty of speed after cranking towards it mach 10.

There’s plenty more to add to this list but we’re open to suggestions for our next Roof Drops compilation video. Drop us an inbox if you wanna shout any out to us.
