FRIDAY RANDOMS: The Dove From Above!

Ok, so please excuse the stupid title of this article. I literally couldn’t think of a suitable name and “Aerial photographs of BMX riders” wasn’t the catchiest of headlines. But yes, this FRIDAY RANDOMS features a few shots taken from a different perspective, mainly from above the rider. It’s these types of photos which tend to make me wonder what the photographer was thinking of at the time and what they may have had to do in order to achieve such a photo. (eg. scale buildings/trees and whatnot…) These pictures aren’t your ordinary run of the mill BMX photograph. Composition, lighting, timing and planning are key elements to any great sports photo and more goes into these than meets the eye.

#1. Matt Cordova

Colony team rider Nathan Sykes snapped this sweet photo of Matt Cordova during a session using a drone and we loved it! See more like this in Matt’s 2016 Round Up.

#2. Mirco – Bars from above.

While staying over in BCN, Archie Kenward and the lads made friends with a few of the locals. Here’s a quality shot of an Italian rider named Mirco (who actually rides for Federal) taken by AK during their visit.

#3 – Richard Coe – Downwhip at the trails.

Richard is one of our FB Group regulars and posted this photo his brother took back in 2009. I’m guessing his bro had to scale a tree to capture this shot, good effort!

#4 – Patrick Alaspää

Our man Scott Connor shot this quality photo of Patrick Alaspää while he was staying over in Helsinki a while back. So good…

#5 – Nathan Sykes – Footplant from above.

Nathan Sykes’ Insta is just brimming with excellent quality riding photos and he updates it on the regular. This footplant was one of my favourite shots ‘from above’ out of a bunch of rad ones!

#6 – Max Wood.

Max Wood stylin’ it out over a set shot by Nathan Beddows while up a tree! Not quite shot from directly above the rider, but it’s rad so I’ll take it.
