UNITED: Ben Gordon – Welcome to the Team

Your man Ben Gordon has been hooked up by United! Check out his welcome video above and read some insights from Ben below.

Q&A with Ben Gordon

–You obviously put in work for this video. The intro is heavy. Some horrid stacks in there… Which was the worst crash of the lot?

“Thanks man! Yeah, seriously put my body on the line as per for this video! I think the worst crash would be the opening bail on the big blue rail, I really want to over Smith it as an ender and thought it’d be perfect on that setup. The rail however was pretty fat which I think more or less pushed my front peg off that then resulted in landing ribs first into those gross skater haters, that bail sucked!”

– Do you think crashing is important on some clips, helps you figure it all out?

“I think crashing is super important in getting over your fear of a spot and in figuring out a trick. Sometimes if you fall on the first go the initial fear is completely gone because the worst is out the way straight away and then you feel more comfortable continuing to send whatever it is.”

– Which clip/s were you sweating the most?

“The barrier hop at the start was pretty damn scary, that was actually the first clip I filmed for this project as well. We rolled up to the spot and I stupidly called myself out on it before properly looking at it. The weather wasn’t great either, it was super windy, pretty wet and super cold as it was mid November. It was one of those things you just have to make yourself send and thankfully it paid off.”

– Where did you film? Manchester, Leeds… Further afield?

“I filmed quite a lot of clips in Manchester and Leeds but also in lesser known northern towns like Blackburn and Preston as Mike is from those parts and I hadn’t ridden the spots there before.”

– Were there any spots where you didn’t get what you wanted? Things to revisit?

“I definitely need to revisit that big blue boy for sure, the security is pretty tight at that shopping centre though unfortunately. At the intro there’s a clip where I do a pretty sick breakdancing routine down some crusty stairs next to a curved rail, I need to get back to that. I’ve been back to it twice and completely written myself off both times.”

– What’s it like being hooked up by a company like United?

“It’s actually crazy, I fully couldn’t believe it at first. I grew up from the age of about 9 watching all of the United DVDs religiously and really looked up to everyone on the team so being a part of the team I’ve looked up to for so long is amazing.”

– How’s the new United Incarnate frame?

“Mate, it’s pretty damn fuego. I’d say it’s definitely the best frame I’ve ever ridden and it looks so rad.”

– What’s coming up next for you?

“I’m gonna start working on a new video pretty soon I reckon, gotta keep productive! Got some trips away and stuff planned so I look forward to those!!”
