Ground Control

Flatland is coming...

With the recent news that NASS will hosting the The Worlds this year and that it will thankfully include flatland, we thought you should get a taste of what to expect.

Ground Control, the UK’s first flatland event of the year, happened last weekend in Manchester and there’s the second round coming up in London on 21st – 22nd May. Flatland is a bit of a dark art, to me it looks completely impossible, but it was also my first introduction into BMX, so I have a real soft spot for it. So many of the moves are now incorporated into park and street riding that it has seen a bit of a resurgence recently, with riders such Matthais Dandois and elements of Mike Curley‘s riding all bringing tech moves to a more widely recognised street riding style, that perhaps we’re all about to latch on to some flatland again, we could all certainly learn a lot about bike control and trick dedication from flatlanders. The UK has always had an incredibly strong flatland scene, and riders like Keelan Philips are still flying the UK flag with a fair bit dominance, not to mention the legend that is Phil Dolan still killing it. Sit back and watch this, and think how much of what you do potentially stems from flatland, and if it none of it does, I dare you to give it a try.

Looking forward to the next round of this and The Worlds flatland comp at NASS.
