THE RAMP HOUSE Jam 2018

Since opening its doors in late 2017 – see the Ride UK Spot Check article – The Ramp House has slowly been resurrecting the BMX scene in Belfast. One thing that was top of the to-do-list was a jam – there hadn’t been a jam in Belfast in almost two years, the last one being a street jam and before that the last skatepark jam was at least three or four years ago, so this was long overdue.

At the start of the year, the date was set for the 7th of April and it came round very fast. There was strong support from sponsors Zeal, Alone, Seventies, 4Down and Monster sending riders and prizes across to Belfast so the day was lining up to be great.

Ginge sending it.
Ginge, still sending it.

The plan for the day was simple – under 15 park/plaza and over 15 park/plaza with a spine-mini jam at the end of the day and even an old school show and shine. It was a breath of fresh air to see so many young shredders enter under 15 and ride the park so well, with AJ Morton coming out on top. It’s definitely positive for the future of the Northern Ireland scene.

The over 15s had a great level of riding from both local and visiting guys, with Fernando Laczko taking first place, Callum Woodland second and Ramp House staff member Connor Davis taking third.

Cam Stevens.
Mikey McClelland with the classic! Backrail fufanus are cool as fuck.
Callum Woodland on his way to 1st place on the spine.
Ed Zunda in the house.
Callum Woodland and Hitcher.

The spine jam ended the day on a high with riders such as Mikey McClelland, Ryan Henderson and Matt Gillespie (to name a few) sending both big and tech tricks and pushing themselves but it was Callum Woodland who took first place shredding the ramp and going higher than anyone I’ve ever seen ride it.

The whole day was enjoyed by all with a great atmosphere and turnout. If you can make it to the next one, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to Rob and Pete at The Ramp House, all the sponsors and everyone who made the day as good as it was.

Main jam winner, Fernando Laczko.
