This Is United DVD went down in BMX history as one of the best! Picking up two Nora Cup awards on the way, one for best video and the other for Corey Martinez’s section within it. They now have another project up their sleeve, so I hit up the United crew for the scoop…

Psyched to see United working on another video project, are we talking web edit or DVD with this one?
This is going to be a DVD project all the way. The whole web/dvd debate is dated, both are great formats and each serves a good purpose, ultimately we like the timeless solid format of a dvd for a full length style release, something to hold in your hands when finished, something you might stumble upon when clearing out some old boxes in 15 years time with nothing but good memories attached to it.

Will it be available as an i-tunes download? what do you guys think about that route?
Not really 100% sure on that one, at this moment in time, likely not. Again, it is a great way to enable people to get hold of a video the instant it is released no matter where they are in the world, just not sure if we will go down that route.

The idea is to release this video in two parts, the first being September 2014 and the second instalment released in 2015, whats the idea with this format?
We wanted to do something a little different to the standard format as it is offers way more flexibility. it takes the pressure off somewhat, we can keep the trips to smaller and tighter crews, and whoever starts getting footage the quickest we can start to focus on nearer the first release. It also allows for injuries etc, and people that are in the first video can always carry on filming and have stuff in the second video. We noticed with the last video the momentum once a project is finished carries on so this allow for that. It also means that the video is something that you can watch quickly and the smaller amount of riders in each one get more focus on them. These days as well, it is pretty hard to sit down for an hour plus to watch a full video, maybe that is just in our eyes, but we are the ones making it! haha, so we wanted something a bit simpler, more user friendly, something you can pop in before going riding, 25 minutes of all the best stuff, and then your done. The second instalment the date is up in the air a little, we might roll it over and release it in 2016 to coincide with our 10year anniversary and make the whole package something a little more special…

United are famed for some of the heaviest hitters in the game, can you give us a rundown of who will feature?
Right now, the whole team, there is a rough plan for a breakdown of riders who will be in the first/second video, but again that can change, we are not just restricting it to Pro riders for full parts, that is all dependent on footage from the rider! As well as the pro team, (Corey Martinez, Nathan Williams, Geoff Slattery, Christian Rigal, Alex Valentino, Jimmy Rushmore, Kye Forte & Leo Forte) we have added some new riders recently to the world team like Jared Chilko, Jack Birtles and Fernando Laczko so there could be some surprises there.

How will you guys collect footage? I’m guessing Coxie is the man when it comes to putting this together, will he be on another one of his global missions?
James will be the main filmer of full trips we do, and taking care of the editing. We are also lucky enough to have some talented videographers on the team, Christian, Nathan, Jack Birtles etc will all be getting some filming done, with the project being as global as it is we are working with riders and filmers local to them also to give everyone the best opportunity as possible to get stuff done. There is a lot of pressure involved for a rider if James is coming into town for a short period of time, it can be so hit and miss, so we want people to be able to relax and get stuff done at their own pace. The first official trip is happening in early December but Christian has three clips in he bag already!

How can kids stay in the loop with this project?
On the world wide web, everyone has the internet in their pocket these days, it’s easy! haha. The name is still undecided, so once we have that we’ll be throwing up # all over the place no doubt, but unitedbikeco.com, facebook.com/unitedbmx, instagram.com/united_bmx, twitter.com/united_bmx and you won’t miss a beat.
