FRIDAY RANDOMS: Best of #UKBMX Instagram

So I’ve been a bit of an insta-creep earlier this morning searching for UK BMX related photos. Using the #UKBMX hashtag it’s pretty easy to come across a few gems from the past & present. These images I’ve selected really do capture the essence of BMX in the UK for various different reasons as you’ll see below…

Bike Pie! Food exodus during the 1989 Southsea King of Concrete. I don't know who took this pic, not me, as I'm in it!

McDonald’s honestly mustn’t of known what hit ’em when 100’s of BMXers hit up their establishment back in 1989 after Southsea King of Concrete! Such an epic event in UK BMX history. Imagine how rowdy that que was man…

Some classic finds in the junk at SPHQ.. #stickers #streetphire #nsf #northeaststreetfoundation #themakebmx #thecountbmx #thecount #elwaxa #dicut #screenprinted #homemade #homebrew #bmx #ukbmx #ukbmxhistory #riderowned #digitalshite

I grew up in the North East and in my own personal experience The NSF lads were a huge influence to the UK BMX scene. It’s fair to say they created a movement with a group of their mates which, at the time had a worldwide influence and that’s a massive thing. No social media back then just all word of mouth. After NSF1 & NSF2 dropped, got shared about all over the UK the videos had people asking, “Who the hell are these street riders from the North East of England?!” Then came Streetphire which was THE website for BMXers at the time, the forum was so good! – Such a sick scene to be a part of, now the younger generations are out there staying true to the heritage and it’s good to see…

Just hanging out to dry???? should I chrome splatter it????? #bmx#spraypaint#recolour#yellow#cheese#eastern#ukbmx#bumblebee#washingline

Spraying your frame then hanging it up on the washing line, looks pretty #UKBMX to me… Pretty good idea to dry it out though, just watch out for those killabees!

The 'Passable Stunt Video' is in its final stages #bmx #ukbmx #murkybmx ???? @rollo_photo

High rise flats are a common sight when riding street in the UK. No matter which town or city you’re in, there’ll be some flats like this with sketchy-lookin’ characters lurking about. Plenty of these up my way for sure! Snap by the lads at MurkyBMX filming for their new ‘Passable Stunt Video’

Well you win some, and then sometimes you just hit your head. Maybe time to brush the dust of the helmet. @belfastbmx @subvertbmx #bmx #bmxisfun #maybenot #bridges #newcastle #uk #ukbmx #subvertbmx #fail

Falling on your arse in the cold is never fun. Having to ride under a bridge because it’s wet outside is not the best either, 5 Bridges, South Bank, The Buszy are just a few I can think of off the top of my head which are sheltered. Trust me, we need more places like that in the UK!

In the rain!? @villijrobbo carvin and not carin.. photo by @tom_camby #ukbmx #bmx

But on the other hand you have Robbo… Rain? What Rain?! Robbo doesn’t care about a bit of rain, these trannies aren’t gonna carve themselves!

Got this one from @theseaandthesky #80sbmx Not sure how the landing went!! #ukbmxhistory #oldschoolbmx ????????

There’s too many kids who are scared to get a bit of pneumonia or rust on their bike these days! I remember the days of launching into a river, sometimes the north sea from a kicker we made many summers ago. It was still absolutely freezing, but such a good laugh!

@jamiesoncarne Got SHIT on by a ROGUE Seagull today haha!! #bmx #unknownparasites

A photo posted by Dchum (@unknownparasites) on

F*$%KING SEAGULLS! – Seagulls are the UK street rider’s worst nightmare. These things can turn a good day into a shit one. Literally. But it seems Jamieson Carne took this one in good jehst, I hear it’s good luck anyway mate! haha

Nothing better than pedalling out of your front gate and heading down the park (or street riding) on a nice warm summer’s day. Warmth is a rare occurrence lately but hold tight, SUMMER IS COMING!

That time @akphoto_ rode up a post box after someone crashed into it ???????? #bmx #ukbmx #Eastbourne #pushitastop #grammasters3

You can’t get much more #UKBMX than this to be honest. Fakie wallride by Archie Kenward on her majesty’s Post Box. I heard the punishment for doing a fakie wallride on the Queens property is the same as killing a swan…

Westway London #1981 Many top riders in the early days came from the #Westway BMX scene ???????????? #Oldschoolbmx #vintagebmx #WestwayBMX #ukbmxhistory #bmx #Region9

One more from the UKBMXHistory archives such a great page on Insta, would recommend giving them a follow for some quality snaps from the early days of BMX.

Tuck that stuff !! @hideoutbmx #bmx #ukbmx

Tight banks, riding pretty much everything even if it’s covered in cobbles or rough bricks. The sketchier the setup, the better. It’s all most of us are used to when riding street, none of this pristine Cali style spots around, so we make do with what we’ve got I guess. Loved this shot of Hideout BMX‘s Gaz Docker boostin’

A good old curb endo executed perfectly on his dad’s steed. Proper #UKBMX tradition. Loving it!
