10 D.I.Y Ramp Masterpieces.

After talking with one of our staff members, and good friend Robin Pearson about an article he did a while back called ‘Dream it, Build it, Ride it’ which was in issue #197 of Ride UK, it made me think that we haven’t seen many of your D.I.Y set ups in a while. So I put the feelers out via FB and the response we got from you guys was fantastic…

Our inbox was blowing up with multiple images, stories & D.I.Y ramp set ups from all over the world, so I thought it’d be a bit rude if I didn’t do another feature to showcase all of your hard work!

This is one of the coolest inboxes we’ve had, I mean building some D.I.Y ramps in an insane asylum is up there with one of the most rad things a BMXer could do! Hats off to Kizo Robinson & the lads, shame the plod got involved and shut it down though…

“Hi guys, seen the diy ramp that was posted yesterday and thought I’d share the ghetto spot me and my mates made in an abandoned asylum. Sadly we got kicked out by police a few months after building it..”

Anghel Mocan was keen to show us the awesome D.I.Y ramps he and his friends had built over in Romania. We got a good amount of detail from Anghel too, check it out!

“Hi there ! I’ve come here with the details about the park. First of all, it is located in Oradea, Romania, in a place called “Moara Răsărit”. This would be “The risen mill” in english i suppose. our park is formed out of 3 main elements:

1. A big quarter, 4 meters tall, with some kind of wallride from the middle to the top, and a tiny table at the top. (left side of the photo i posted in the comment)

2. In the middle there is a funbox of about 1.6-1.8 meters tall and a large bank(the landing) built with a slack enough angle. Theese two elements are connected together by a medium size table (large enough for us) – about 1.5 m long and 2m wide.

3. The last one is our “main ramp”, where we do most of our tricks. It’s all about a big enough quarter which can also be used as a launching ramp. This one is about 2.5 to 3 meters tall. This one also has “the big table” of our park where all of us, the riders meet up and wait each other riding at that moment to finish his line with a big trick.”

Ron Mercer fired over a few snaps of his outdoor back yard park dubbed “The Woodyard Bike Park” and it’s fair to say I was pretty impressed at the craftsmanship and sheer size of it! Could ride this place for hours and not get bored. Well done Ron, that’s badass.

Now this is as D.I.Y as you can get… At first, I thought “nahhh surely that’s not safe to ride!” but these lads have been using their ghetto wallride and it hasn’t claimed anyone’s life yet!

This was sent in by Lewis Gulliver who added, “You should see the rest of the park”

Not too bad I guess, I’ve definitely seen worse than this! That ledge does look a bit steep though…

David Gudger and his friends have been working their asses off for some time to get this place ready for summer. Concrete is definitely the way forward…

Kevin Balle Johannsen has been a pretty busy chap and built this monster of a roll-in with two take offs and a landing in his back yard. Wouldn’t mind having a little training camp like this at home, awesome!

This is definitely one of the more impressive D.I.Y parks I’ve seen. Holy crap…
Anthony St-jacques sent us this snap of their private park and it’s fair to say this place is friggin’ awesome! – Well done lads.

Nice mixture of trails & ramps here, not sure what the plan is but I really wanna hit that vert quarter for some reason! Sent in by: Corie Wheeler

Kevin Seabrook does not mess around… This private indoor park looks immaculate and that pump track will be a bunch of fun!

Can you say ULTIMATE MAN CAVE? Holy shit-balls! I’d literally never see the Mrs again if I had a hideout like this, sure it’s a small mini for skating but I’d be riding that thing on a daily basis. Hats off to Gordon Engel, possibly the best yet!

So yeah, a HUGE thank you to the guys who took the time to send us the pics & info on their D.I.Y ramp set-ups and we’ll be doing another round in the near future so you can either inbox us pics & info or feel free to mail me at: fraser@rideukbmx.com

Peace! – NF.
