Fixing a broken chain isn’t as complicated as it might seem, all you need is the right tool and a few spare links.
Tip: Use the left / right arrow keys

01
Before you start fixing the broken chain, make sure you’ve got a chain tool and a correct piece of chain for replacing the broken link. When you buy a new chain you’ll always get excess; keep hold of this as it’ll come in handy when it breaks.

02
You’ll need to remove the broken link with the chain tool. You can see between the fingers here how big one link is (it’s also clear in step six).

03
Take the tool and turn out the broken link. Make sure as you turn the pin out of the chain you don’t push it all the way out.

04
You can see here how the pin isn’t all the way out. This’ll help when you put the new link in. Pull out the offending link. Now we can put a new one in.

05
Take your spare link. If you don’t have one you’ll be able to pick up some spares from a local bike shop. Make sure it’s the same size as the chain you’re running.
