I think it’s about time to take a look at the talent the North-East has to offer for a moment. It’s been a while since the NE had some large-scale coverage since the NSF days. Don’t worry though… Chris Souter is alive and well. He’s still riding and loving life, Olly Olsen, Marc Bell and a good few of the original lot still come out and haven’t lost their touch either!
Up here we’ve got the CLS BMX lot, Vulture Krew, SR7 BMX – Our little crew, (shameless plug), PBMX and a few other crews (sorry if I missed anyone out) but the thing I’ve noticed is; we all cross paths at different points in our lives and have made some good friends with different locals over the years. I think that’s one of the great things about BMX, how it can bring people together. I mean shit, a few of us argue and fall out from time to time but BMX is, and will always be salty.
The BMX Box is our local rider-owned BMX shop & the owner Lee Southern is such a good bloke, he’s always been there to sort the bikes out for the lads and makes time to catch up with you even though he’s usually rushed off his feet! He has helped out with local jams and events giving us stuff to use as prizes, he rides BMX himself and his son Karl Southern is the future. I’m not even joking, he’s just a really sound young lad who loves riding and is always pushing his limits! Take a look at his Welcome Edit if you don’t believe me and you’ll see exactly what I mean!
To be honest, all of the local lads kill it and I’m not just saying that because I’m from up this way. We’ve got Proper Bike Co’s Sean Kelly up here, Raymond Inskipp who rides for Odyssey flow, Karl Southern (The BMX Box) Benn Goodall, Bannan, Sam & Robin Watson, Cragz, Broge, Kieran Wilkinson, SIRM, Fletch, Scott Thompson, Ben Howgate, Ryan Hendry, Monkey & Dchum. There’s probably a few I’ve missed out, so sorry if I’ve forgotten any of you lads!
Right, after all that waffling on for ages I’ll explain what you’re watching eh? The video itself is a 19 minute masterpiece mixed in Dchum’s own unique style and I’m actually going to admit that I don’t even know his real name! hahaha (sorry mate) – The lads clocked a lot of footage over the past year and after undoubtedly sitting in a dark room for hours on end drinking vodka through his eyeball Savage Henry aka Dchum created this ‘street’ park edit for The BMX Box.
Strap yourself in and get ready for some pegs.
