E-FISE is here, riders have filmed and submitted their qualifier videos and voting is now open! These guys are relying on your vote to see them through to the final stages.
We thought we’d get some insight into the entries from UK riders and nudge you to vote for your favourite.
Q&A with Kayley Ashworth
– Tell us about filming. Where did you ride, how long did it take, who filmed it?
Well, we have a new camera, do I know how to use it? No
Did it take a day of filming and losing access to all of the footage, to learn how to use it properly? Yes. 😂
So, filming was quite the ride!
I had 2hrs on Saturday & Sunday, then 3hrs on Tuesday to put something together, with thanks to the help from the greatest men in my life (dad & joe) I managed to get enough clips and I am really happy with the outcome – even if all the footage we captured on Saturday, we lost 🙈
I managed to get clips in Ramp1, Market Drayton and Widnes, originally I wanted to film outdoors only, however, the British weather had other ideas.
“Indoor skatepark + Scooters = Real-life game of Frogger 🐸”
– Did you have to battle for any of the clips in this one?
M-A-N-Y
Indoor skatepark + Scooters = Real-life game of Frogger 🐸
You know how it is and with my injury history, I was taking the chance that I could collide with a scooter seriously! I waited 30mins for scooters to lose steam before sending that 1handed tbog.
I spent a lot of energy on the double peg grind, I do enjoy this trick, but it took a few attempts – especially after I fractured my arm doing it on the exact same ramp during practise at Backyard Jam last year.
– Do you have a favourite clip?
Yes! My one hand on the wallride makes me laugh every time I see it, my concentration face is so real!
– What was your approach for the video? Did you go all out for this one to have the best chance of qualifying, or did you hold some things back for the next round?
Ah man, I’m a battle to myself, I didn’t know whether to enter, let alone what category I should upload to OR even consider qualifying 🤷🏼♀️ It would take a week of deliberation before I decided to go for it, besides, this is a virtual comp – free entry, no flights or hotel costs, what do I have to lose?! So that left me with 3 days to get something together (better late than never, right? haha)
I wanted to capture the way I ride in this present moment, with medical flaws and all, I am happy to still be able to ride my BMX.
I’ll admit, I have held back, for a number of reasons:
I’ve been recovering from a foot fracture and I’m at the point where I’m still hesitant to use it as a safety foot; I sent the tricks I’ve been doing for a longggggg time, rather than my new learns because I don’t want to end up in hospital after going harder for the camera; I cut a large chunk of clips after getting rejected 10mins before deadline, so now I have more tricks to show, if I qualify!

– If you get into the final stages, what can we expect to see from you?
Honestly, I’m aiming for top 15, right in the mix! But if by some miracle I qualify, I’d set aside more time to film and create a video that’s longer than 35seconds – my original video was rejected because I had dirt clips in there, so you have only seen half of my efforts!
– You must have kept a close eye on the competition. Any of the other entries you’re stoked on?
I voted for the majority of the girls before I decided to enter, the scene is lit!
HAVE YOU SEEN THE 10YR OLD BOOSTING FLIPS IN AMATEUR 😱❤️
– Here’s the push… Why should people vote for you?
Vote for me because I enjoyed making the video and I’m just as surprised as you are to see me here. 😂
On a serious note, many of my friends have shared my vote link, saying I deserve the vote for my perseverance throughout the discovery of my spinal disease and working to get back on my bike anyway ✌🏼 Either way, it’s up to you.
