TRIP REPORT: Brighton to Austin

Words & Photos by Martin Grainger

Austin is one of those places I’ve never heard a bad word spoken about. And like we’ve all heard before, it is the best place in the world you can go if you want to ride BMX. With multiple amazing concrete parks, amazing weather (and when it does rain it’s not long before it dries up), amazing food, 9th street trails, multiple brands located there, a vast array of different riders, one of the best BMX stores in the world, and of course 6th street for unwinding in the evenings… There isn’t really anything it doesn’t have.

Casson with a high speed step down, on his way to the next Wi-Fi spot
Chilling at 5-hip Ditch
As the storms were rolling in Casson managed to click this x-up literally as the heavens started to open…spot the rain drops on the quarter
Matt boosted out of this tight bank over the trolley, and shortly after this we were given the boot by your stereotypical good cop/bad cop duo

Every year on social media I see the initial ‘it’s booked’ post which is then followed up with the ‘at the airport’ and then followed up with continuous day-to-day updates of the good times to be had in Austin. This seems to be getting more frequent as well as more spread throughout the year, which can only back up the previous point that it really is an amazing place both on and off the bike.

Nice one, Bruv.
Matt, tyre slide at Pflugerville
Casson managed to drag himself off his phone for long enough to stretch this one foot flattie at House Park from the quarter into the nipple
Jon carving up Blake's back yard.

Now, sat here at work, doing my best to make this not sound lame, it’s raining outside but I have these photos to look back on.

Jon and Stig laughing at the fact that Jon only bought white shoes with him…little did he know ‘it gone rain’, and then there’s mud.
Jon and his fresh whites vans, doing his best to show you how high you can go with white shoes
Just imagine going to all the effort to buy a surprise birthday cake, only to be ignored... On the up, this was eventually half eaten using toothbrushes…go figure…

This wasn’t my first time and certainly won’t be my last, so all I can say is until next time Austin…

Disclaimer: Please note that nobody’s chill was riffed during the shooting of any of these photos.

First day out and Matt was happy to boost this tight bank over and over followed by threading the needle between the parked cars and then trying to remember what way he was meant to look for cars
Toby can air ramps…and doesn’t have to wear white shoes to do it
