TEAM NEWS: Casson Downing on Kink BMX

Brighton dude Casson Downing has some great news to share – he’s now riding for Kink BMX via Seventies Distribution!

We hit him up with a few questions about the move, while Martin Grainger grabbed some photos.  Yeah, that wallride (below) is big eh…  Keep ’em peeled for more of that in his welcome video.

Q&A with Casson Downing

– Yo Casson, congrats on being put on Kink! How does that feel?

Yo! Cheers man, I’m beyond stoked to be put on kink! They’ve been a massive name in BMX for years and had some of the best dudes on the team, so it feels pretty mad to be asked to ride for them!

– How did this deal come about?

I was at work at the time, and Martin messaged me a few weird questions, pretty random and out the blue, haha, didn’t think anything of it. Then he phoned me that evening saying he’d been talking to the guys at Kink and they wanted to put me on the team! Can’t think of a better way to start the new year!

– Tell us about the frame you chose and the other Kink parts you’ve gone for.

I went with a 21tt Backwoods frame in raw, which looks so rad! Especially with the frame badge up top! It’s got a low bottom bracket and the slack head tube so it feels solid and stable when ripping round bowls. I’m running the Williams bars, Bold top load stem and the CST forks, so the front end feels super solid! I’ve also got the Brace cranks at 170mm with the Hemlock pedals, the Severe tyres, Samaria grips and the big slim seat! Probably one of the best looking bikes I’ve had to date. Can’t thank the guys enough for everything!

“I’m currently working on a welcome edit… I’ve got a few things I’ve always wanted to get done around Brighton and this seems like the perfect opportunity to bring them all together!”

– How’s she riding?

The bike rides so good! Super fast, feels spot on! Bring on the summer and hopefully some trips abroad!

– I hear you’re working on a special welcome video… Care to tell us anything about the concept?

Yeah man, currently working on a welcome edit with Martin. I’ve got a few things I’ve always wanted to get done around Brighton and this seems like the perfect opportunity to bring them all together! Me and my good friend Matt Mayman built a ramp in the first lockdown which had a super tight transition, so we decided to make a mark 2 for the video and see what kind of set ups we could find for it! Hopefully both those things come together and we get a rad video out if it!

– What are your hopes for 2021?

Travel! Anywhere warm! Haha. It looks to be getting more hopeful for the end of the year. Definitely want to get over to Spain at some point if we can! If we’re still unable to get abroad then I’ll make the most of the English parks and get involved in the vans and scrans road trips, never a dull moment with them boys! Either way it’ll be a good one!
