British rider Leo Forte comes from a family of passionate BMXers – growing up in Newton Abbot, Devon, he competed from a young age against his two older brothers Toby and Kye, who have both also gone on to become successful pro bike riders. The three brothers are still based in the area, riding the county’s twin coastlines, amazing forests and woodland of Dartmoor National Park, and the Decoy Trails near their hometown.
Together with Kye, Leo rides for UK brand United – the brothers’ joint signature complete is the ‘KL40’, the Pro version of which is a fully-fledged trail-ready beast that comes with an incredible custom Black Crystal paint job. Leo’s other sponsors include DC Shoes, Fox, Profile, 4Down Distribution and Oakley.
Among his clips are a great part in United’s full-length video ‘This Is United’, filmed from October 2008 to June 2010 in various locations around the world. Leo’s part is one of the reasons why the film won the NORA Cup for Video of the Year in 2010, as he pulls off some of the biggest gaps ever caught on film.
These days, he also describes himself as a ‘designer and maker of things … a craftsman with a passion for art, design and the creation of bespoke objects of desire’. He not only helped his brothers design and build the world’s craziest BMX course for Red Bull Empire of Dirt, but he also works on home and garden assignments, drawing inspiration from the new cultures and craftsmanship he encounters on his travels.
