This weekend will see the final of the UK Dirt Series, this time hosted at Lakefest. The 2 previous rounds attracted some of the biggest names in BMX Dirt jumping competition, with the likes of Corey Bohan, Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark and Anthony Napolitan and young gun UK riders such as Declan Brooks and Tom Isted, all shredding the legendary jumps at Jason Aliano’s and the dialled setup at Shrews trails. It’s been the first year for The Dirt Series, joining forces with the Park and Vert Series to create a competition league for the UK.
It’s tough out there for BMX competitions, unless you have the support of larger corporations, it can be draining, both mentally and financially, but luckily, the guys putting these events on, are above all else, passionate about BMX, and that always makes for a good time for the riders and spectators. It really helps to show support to the people trying to make things happen for the UK scene. Believe me, it’s not for them to make money, it couldn’t be further from the truth, it’s simply to get BMX out there and give both professionals and amateurs a place to gather and compete. We’ve all been guilty of saying “there’s nothing happening in the UK for BMX” but the fact is, this has been one of the best years for a long time, it just needs us to get out there and support them. Do yourself a favour, and choose some to go to, drink some cold ones, hang out with mates and enjoy BMX in the UK. If Dirt is your thing, the Dirt Series final will be right up your street, and you can enjoy Lakefest in the process.
