It was bound to happen sooner or later and it turns out that the 10-12th of July just isn’t big enough for the both of them.
Shortly after NASS announced the dates for the 2009 event, the organisers of the BMX Worlds (new name for the BMX Masters) announced the same dates.
With NASS already booking the Bath and West Showground along with several live acts, it means any chance of them being able to change dates is out the window. This means it’s up to the Worlds to either alter the date or carry on with the clash.
It’s not so bad really, I mean both contests have their positives, it just depends on which riders choose to go where. With the worlds being 25 years old this year, it is a World Championship event, which means it will be a very important event within BMX. On the other hand, if you want a belting weekend away from home with BMX, music, mayhem and girls, then NASS would be a better (and cheaper) option!
It seems strange that two huge international events could clash in a year when there are so very few international BMX events…
Here is our coverage from each event last year. Which would you chose? Let us know what you think in the comments…
