The Athlete Recovery Fund “ARF” is a non profit organisation based in California that is the support blanket for injured pro riders in BMX , MX and skateboarding. When things go bad for a rider, which recently seems to be happening more and more with the progression and risk factor involved in action sports, the ARF is on hand to assist the family of the injured athlete in getting them back on the road to recovery.
You’ve already probably heard that Dew Cup athlete Brett Banasiewicz #Maddog took a really heavy slam a few months back at a Vans contest suffering some severe head trauma. Well Brett’s been pushing on and only recently has started rehabilitation since coming off his ventilator. ARF have put out this cool video of Maddog fighting back, he’s made some improvements but still has a long way to go..
Last weekend at the Dew Tour stop in San Francisco the dirt riders and a lot of other athlete’s wore the #Maddog Stay Strong tee shirts out of respect in the same way they did for Stephen Murray 5 years ago. ARF have been selling the shirts to raise money for Brett’s recovery:
ARF as an organisation rely on donations and fundraising and support from industry brands in order to keep on giving back to riders and families when things go wrong. You can by some cool stuff to support the cause including collab New Era Snapbacks and Limited Edition DC Shoes over on there site: www.athleterecoveryfund.myshopify.com
Check out Maddog at his best:
