JON NATTRISS: An Inspirational BMX Story

We received a touching story via our inbox and thought it definitely deserved to be shared with you all. This life is a short one, you never know what’s around the corner but having that courage and determination to battle whatever challenge you are facing is one of the true traits of a BMXer.

“I’m writing in to mention Jon Nattriss, he’s had a interesting story that has inspired me to BMX and I think your readers could be interested in hearing about him.
Jon is my boyfriend, which probably makes me slightly bias but hear me out. 3 months ago he underwent serious surgery to repair bone loss caused by arthritis in his hip. After all his surgeries despite the pain, he gets back on his bike and relearns the tricks and more. He got diagnosed with this condition when he was 10 years old and had surgery replacing part of his hip then, they told him he’d never run, jump or be able to play with the other kids. Jon was inspired by many of the great BMXers you write about and showcase in your magazine, he was also inspired by his best friend, who sadly at the age of 20 tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident. Throughout this Jon passionately encouraged and pursued the sport, developing his skill set, setting up a YouTube channel and getting young people, old people, women and men from all backgrounds involved! He even made me up a bike and although a dedicated skateboarder I enjoy taking the bmx for a ride at the skate park with him.
I’m extremely proud of his dedication and willingness to never quit on the things you are passionate about in life.
