I think we all need to give props to Alan Woods for being one of the OGs in BMX in the UK. Along with his father, Alan was one of the guys responsible for helping BMX get off the ground in the UK when it landed on our shore. Alan designed and built the famous Wigan Three Sisters track, which was one of the best tracks in the UK and still talked about today. It even held a round of the #Kelloggs TV series in 1984. Alan sponsored and ran the legendary, Robinson and Torker Teams in the 80s producing so many champions over the years and still today supports Riders/ Teams in the UK. If the BMX community ever decide to have a real British BMX Hall of Fame, Alan Woods' name needs to be on it... #AlanWoods @alansbmx #vintagebmx #oldschoolbmx #bmxhalloffame #ukbmxhistory #bmx

Westway London 1981
The @UKBMXHistory account on Instagram is my favourite place to hit right now. It’s filled with images and info from predominantly the 1980’s race scene. It was an era of BMX I unfortunately missed, even though as a toddler I had a sweet Casio watch with racers on it.
We’ve decided to do a “best of” for Friday Randoms today. It’s not really a best of as such because every image on there is amazing and always tells a great story. I’ve picked my personal favourites which tend to be kids who look like they’re from Grange Hill riding in packs around the streets of Britain. Something which I did in the 90’s as we rode knackard old freestylers about and built ramps out of old council house doors and milk crates. These were the days before I knew what a BMX scene actually was and the memories are fond. Follow @UKBMXHistory on Insta, the community is growing as riders from the era are tagged in posts and tell their own story.
