Cover Evolution – Alex Kennedy

On the cover this month we feature CULT rider Alex Kennedy and the headline title of “Evolution”. There has been a few comments saying what does evolution stand for in this case. Well everything that exists in this world evolves, whether it’s the human race, technology, BMX or in this case Alex’s style of riding.

Everyone in BMX has there own unique style in some way, whether you ride with a brake, no brakes, or with 1, 2, 3 or 4 pegs. You may prefer to ride street, park or trails, and you may wear skinny jeans, baggy jeans, XL tees or tight small tees. Style even counts for the way you ride your bike, the way you do certain tricks and even the way you land them.

Dont’ get me wrong Alex has had his own unique style from the start, I remember riding with him back in Cambridge when we we’re very young like 14/15 years old and we were rocking the Red and Blue Primo V Monster tyres. 10 or so years later and our styles have dramatically changed from rocking those tyres and more and more into our own unique way of doing things. In Alex’s case his style has evolved into something very special indeed.

Not only have our styles evolved and continue to evolve, but riding as a whole and the tricks we try also have . Many moons ago, riders would only dream of the combo’s that these riders are doing nowadays. Let’s take a look back at issue 126 – April 2009 Issue.

This was Alex’s first cover which was shot well over 3 years ago now. He had just got on the Fit UK team and had the chance to head out to Athens with the team to film some clips and shoot for the mag, where he was lucky enough to score the cover doing this ever so steezy toboggan on a street hip… with no pegs.

Fast forward from those 3 or so years ago and we’ve once again got Alex on the cover of Issue 170, December 2012, and once again doing another steezy toboggan, but this time with 4 plastic pegs, a freecoster with a smith and feeble combo thrown into the mix. Just by looking at the two covers above you can see the evolution in Alex’s riding, even if he’s somehow managed to go back to riding those coloured tyres (although as always, he makes them look good!).

Before we end here’s some videos featuring Alex evolving into what he is today…
