British-born Alex Kennedy is part of the crew at Cult, where his ‘AK’ signature range features a frame with 4130 chromoly tubeset and tapered toptube, self-designed grips, and tripod seat with one-piece textured vinyl top and thick foam padded base. He is also sponsored by Nike BMX and Primo BMX Supply Co.
His laidback demeanour, massive bag of tricks, and original, ultra-smooth style are on show in some great videos, such as Cult’s innovative ‘Sessions 01’, or his 2013 Primo edit, in which he makes a whole load of tricks, from tyreslides to big drops, look effortless. Representing Nike, his edit from a visit to Taipei in 2012 to ride with the locals in the Nike Summer Jam is also a must-see.
Although not a huge fan of competitions, he had top ten finishes at the X Games in 2012 and 2013. His seemingly unstoppable progression into one of the most creative Street riders in the game continued into 2014 as he finished ninth at the X Games, before being named on the shortlist for the Number One Street Rider award at the NORA Cup.
Alex also featured on the 2014 Dew Tour, competing in the Street competition in Brooklyn. Among his tricks were an opposite ice pick up the A-frame over to ice pick down, 360 over the up ledge, crooked up the red rail to 180 toboggan out, nollie nose manual on the 8-stair handrail and a fastplant to ice pick on the 8-stair rail, and he finished in sixth place overall.
