Isaac Lesser hitting up Canvey for Mankind.
Crappy news coming in on this dreary January afternoon. It appears the skatepark in Canvey is under threat as the council don’t have the funds to repair the place.
What hurts the most though is that it needs constant repair because who ever built it, did a shocking job. A design fault means it’s susceptible to corrosion and back in 2012 the council spent £19k on repairs. The bill is now something like £500k….
The whole thing is a farce and the options are to replace the park or simply remove it all together. It throws in to light the fact councils across the land need to be working with people who are experienced in the skatepark world. Not fly by nights with a welding mask and a fat invoice but people who ride them and have been doing so for decades. People who understand the culture of the local park and know more than a guy who does a bit of welding on the side. Shocking.
Good luck to the locals at Canvey, and Castle Point Council can contact us any time and we’ll fix them up with the right people to build and maintain skateparks.
