URP kindly gave us a fully built production model of the bike and first impressions had us…. confused to be honest. Maybe confused us the wrong description, Its like nothing that has been on the market before. Belt drive, Disk brakes and the fact that the rear end and drop out is an engineering marvel, truly a work of functional art. But and there is a but….. it looked big and heavy.
Frame including axel (Included in the package) tips the scales at only 4.2lbs
We loaded up the bike, called our ‘STIG’ test rider and told him to see us at the track. Stiggy’ jump straight on the bike and instantly got to grips with it, saying how well balanced it felt and was soon sticking manuals and jumping it. Until !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He got a flat, but this did give us the opportunity to see how quick it is to drop out the rear wheel from the intricate design.
See for yourself below. Under 40 seconds and the advantage of knowing the wheel will be back in exactly the same place so no worrying about chain adjusters, wheel alignment or any of that rubbish. That stuff is a thing of the past.
The MoTo V1 and its Gates carbon belt drive completely won us over and shattered every pre conceived fear and worry. Cranks spin great and even with a ‘low’ engagement rear hub the bike got up and got going like nothing else. Zero slack and zero stretch from the belt meant every bit of effort going into the pedals went directly to the ground.
