As DIY skateparks go, there’s a place in north London that’s truly special. The Spot is one of those unique places that you can’t really believe exists – it’s pretty damn amazing. Built on the foundations of some kind of old water treatment plant, it’s been there for around 15 years, is recognised by the local council, has a crew of locals that are 100% dedicated, has graced the pages of Ride UK on numerous occasions, is loved and respected globally by the BMX and skate industries… It’s just rad as fuck.
I was a Spot Local for about 5 years and still hold the place close to my heart. Building new things with concrete (especially the bowl in the video above) was an awesome challenge and you can see for yourself how good the place is.
Main man (mad man) Steve Barrow has launched a crowdfunding page to help complete a few ongoing projects at The Spot. It’s a reasonable goal of £2000, which will go a long way with these guys.
“Our Skatepark known as The Spot in Tottenham, London is globally well known. After being given the go-ahead from Haringey Borough Council and English Heritage Trust, our 13 years of hard Grafting and private funding from its keepers has us very near the completion of this amazing place. With your help we can continue to build and maintain our beloved concrete paradise. We have no financial goals other than to keep our crew, The Spot Locals, knee deep in concrete, tools and equipment for the future. Thanks for donating.”
