If you’ve seen issue 180, then you’ve no doubt hit up the Kyle Davenport interview with Walter Pieringer. It’s a seriously good read with plenty of cracking photos as per Walter. We did a quick “5 Things” with Kyle as his new Mutiny edit dropped late last week. Here they both are…
Kyle Davenport: 5 Things
We shot Kyle’s magazine interview and web video simultaneously and in three states – Texas, California, and Florida. Other than a trip to Woodward, this was the first time Kyle had left Texas to ride his bike.
The bridge Kyle jumps is at his former high school, and he’s been dreaming of jumping that thing for years. It was no easy task – the runway is terrible, and the bridge is not only long but perhaps more importantly very skinny.
During the course of shooting, Kyle crashed his motorcycle going 40 MPH and walked away with only some blisters on his hands. The motorcycle wasn’t so lucky.
We enlisted Ashley Charles to dress up like a tourist and distract some highly unfriendly and ever-present hotel owners while Kyle jumped the big gap at the end of the video. It worked out perfectly – Ashley distracted the owners long enough for Kyle to eye up the gap and me to set up cameras, and Kyle jumped the gap just as one of the owners finally realized what was going on and came out to give us the boot.
Shooting was cut short when Kyle broke his ankle re-doing a tech jib he didn’t pull clean enough the first time. But don’t worry, he’s still got plenty of big stuff planned for the future.
