SPOT CHECK: Preston Skatepark

Transitions Everywhere!

Preston, Lancashire just got treated to a seriously impressive new concrete park by Freestyle. It’s in Moor Park, right next to the football stadium in a rather picturesque spot overlooking the park, with gentle landscaping and nice old trees. Very pleasant indeed. This skatepark is one of Freestyle’s latest efforts and looks to be a bit of a flagship park for them, thanks to its size and wide variety of features. There are transitions seemingly everywhere, with rollers, height changes, transfers, pool coping, waterfalls, a model of the local observatory… There are so many interesting bits!

In the morning when the place was quiet, lines would take in the whole park, which felt awesome. It really works as a whole piece. But when it got busier later on, the park rode well in sections, too.

Joe Parry, big table out of that pool transition!

The pool is a pretty crazy feature. It’s good and deep but not half as tight as most skatepark pools I’ve come across – in fact, it rode more like a normal bowl at first. However, it soon proved itself, as the shallower transitions and coping stones kept me on my toes.

This park is well worth a visit. Oh and I hear that when the stadium lights up you get enough spill from the stands to ride at night…
