WEEKENDER: Vans BMX Pro Cup Malaga – Photo Gallery

Contests in general are pretty overwhelming. There are loads of people, big crowds, dudes shouting into microphones, riders flying all over the place and media men rushing around to capture the goings on.

Usually, after attending a contest, I find myself a bit done with BMX for a little while. It’s just full on. However, very occasionally a big event can make you more stoked on BMX than ever, making you want to ride as soon as possible, travel to new places, go on a road trip, learn new tricks, all the good stuff. You guessed it – Vans BMX Pro Cup in Malaga had this effect.

I’ve been to some amazing BMX events in the past, where the level of riding has been astounding, where crowds have created an incredible atmosphere, or where everyone has been generally stoked, but I have to say that the Vans event in Malaga wowed me on all accounts. Riders did things previously considered impossible and the crowd got behind anyone pushing themselves. It was a real treat to see BMX firing on all cylinders at a huge public event.

Check out these photos from Adam Lievesley for a taste of the action and atmosphere.

Featuring: Ryan Nyquist, Dan Foley, Tom Dugan, Larry Edgar, Chase Hawk, Matt Cordova, Lima, Daniel Sandoval, Ben Wallace, Sergio Layos, Pat Casey, Kris Fox, Dennis Enarson, Kevin Peraza, Dylan Lewis and many more.

Practice = trains. Kris Fox, Ryan Nyquist and Dan Foley hitting 'the nascar line.'
Dan Foley again, this time with a slightly less conventional move.
Pat Casey fired out some heavy moves, like this wild whip to table over the channel.
Look at that form! Dan Foley with the goodness.
Lima absolutely slayed, earning himself a place at the final round in Huntington Beach, California this August.
Sergio rips the park in Malaga with such natural flow, it's incredible to watch. Chilled T-bog over the channel.
Saturday's Regional Qualifiers were insane – podium lads: 1st Chris James, 2nd Maxime Charveron, 3rd Ben Wallace.
One of the crazier moves of the contest – front flair, Sandoval.
Daniel Sandoval, seriously inverted!
Ben Hennon wasn't perfectly happy with the way he rode, but he looks pretty stoked here.
UK's own Tom Graves hitting a sweet T-bog at a late practice session.
We love Matt Cordova. Everything looks so damn good!
Larry Edgar constantly redefines what real life is supposed to look like. Seriously...
Tom Dugan has access to the boost button...
Kris Fox.
Chris James sent some wild moves, like this frontflip.
Dylan Lewis with the absolute truth!
Fence crew was constantly pumped.
The crowd in general totally ruled.
Matt Cordova – yes!
This move made a lot of dudes very happy. Clint Reynolds, lawnmower right up there.
Kevin Peraza, major stoke.
Stoked to see Corey Bohan out there doing his thing.
This pocket transfer was a favourite of a few lefty riders. Dennis Enarson seemed to dig it.
This guy! Steve Crandall kept everyone in stitches with his mic work. I swear I saw a dude crash from laughing.
Chris James sending the 360 flip!
The man, Darryl Nau.
Best trick winner, Ben Wallace. Check our finals video for the footage...
The final top three: 1st Chase Hawk, 2nd Corey Walsh, 3rd Sergio Layos.
