Sunshine, BMX and Moody Architecture

Words and photos by John Wells

Stumbling on this trip to the Ghetto Games left me with no expectations. Naïve and hung over, the event hit me like a well-deserved punch in the face on the Friday. A smorgasbord of weird competitions; Arm wrestling, Street basketball, Freestyle rapping, Breakdancing, all with the weirdest of all at the centre, BMX.

The partying was immense! I suppose when you put 60+ BMX riders in unsupervised University dorms, add some of the cheapest beer in Europe, things are going to get out of hand. However, this did not disrupt the event. With some big names, a chunk of the Wethepeople team, and plenty of unknown eastern European juggernauts the riding was outstanding.

Check the video and make sure you get out there next year.

Big shout out to Toms Silins for making this happen (and babysitting us all for 4 days), legend!

Mike Curley, oppo whip on a pretty rad street tranny.
Curley again, whip on the street course.
BSD superstars Greg Layden and Jonny Moffat take a nap while life goes on beneath them.
Dillon Lloyd, feeble to whip.
Jordan Godwin, unluc-e to hard 180.
