DYLAN LEWIS: An English Vacation

Video and words by Scott Connor

Coming in hot! Straight off the back of the Vans BMX Pro Cup in Malaga, Dylan Lewis came to visit England. After one day of decompression, Dylan, Gaz Sanders and I jumped into the Seventies Distro van and set off to let Dylan sample some south east concrete and trails.

Over the course of the week we visited Brighton, Hastings, London and Sheet trails. Bowls were carved, trails were boosted and new height records were set at every spot we visited.

“ENGLAND… What a fucking place!

There is definitely something about it that always leaves me wanting more. It reminds me of Australia in so many ways! The banter is real and the beers are always flowing! There is incredible scenery like nothing I have ever seen before. And somehow even with the grey skies and the shit talking we got a lot of riding done! Which is sick because England has some amazing trails and some damn good bowls!”

“I feel so lucky to have been there twice now. Both times I have met some amazing people and made some life long friends. The scene in England is rad! Thanks to all the dudes that make me feel welcome and showed me a good time! Thanks to Scott from Ride UK, Ed for the photos and most of all Gaz and Mutiny Bikes, much love!”

“For someone who’s used to going to the moon, Dylan Lewis hasn’t travelled too far on this earth. In fact, his first international trip was last year. Not only was it his first time flying, it was also his first time riding in a pro contest and not just any old contest – it was the Van Doren Invitational, which he happened to place 3rd at.

Since then, Dylan and I have travelled all over the place, I even treated him to a trip to sunny old Derby last September! Fast forward to May 2017 and we both found ourselves in Malaga, Spain for the 2nd stop of the Vans BMX Pro Cup.

It’s been a blast watching Dylan’s progress over the last few years. He’s gone from Australia’s secret weapon to your favourite pro’s favourite rider.

His signature frame, The Death Grip, has also built up quite a following since its release last September. Initially Dylan asked me if we could make him a custom frame with a 21.8” top tube, along with some other special tweaks. I liked his idea that much that I also decided to get a 21.3” sample made. The samples showed up and both Dylan and I were blown away. Finally a modern frame built for taller riders who like to go fast and high. The 1st batch were pretty much all sold out before they’d even hit shops.”
