2011 has been and gone and it seemed like it went in a flash. Saying that, 2011 was a big year for us. We kicked off the first ever Ride UK “Game of Ride” event down in Hastings, Ride To Glory celebrated it’s 4th birthday, and we hosted the first Ride UK Reader Awards and I’m sure there was more stuff in between. Here are our best bits of 2011…
Videos
ONE: Ben Lewis. This was definitely one of my personal favourites. This was my second visit to Liverpool, as the first was back in the day for the Battle Royale Jam. Since then I always wanted to visit Liverpool again and I couldn’t have asked for a better host than Ben Lewis to show me around.
Rebel Jam: Eindhoven, The Netherlands. This was the first Rebel Jam we covered online and what a blinder it was! Roll on this years…see you there.
Ride To Glory: DUB. The Ride To Glory edits were our most viewed videos through last year. Including this winning edit from the guys at DUB that you voted for.
ONE: Ben Wallace. Ben probably spent more time stateside than in the UK last year, and he killed it at all the big events! It was good to catch up with him at the beginning of the year to film this edit and rag his car about before he left.
ONE: Luke Marchant. Our first edit of 2011, and probably the coldest and longest night ever, but Luke and I both pushed through and finished filming deep into the morning at the Trick Factory in Dorset.

“Nigel Sylvester Appreciation Day”
“Every day we get letters sent in asking “how do I get sponsored”… It’s actually worrying that many riders have this on their mind for most of the time as opposed to just having a good time riding (which, ironically is always the best route to being noticed). However aiming high and wanting to be sponsored or have a career in BMX isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact BMX is crying out for the best people to represent it and move it forward, so if anything we need you. But there’s a way to go about it, and how Nigel does it is inspiring.”
Alex Coleborn – One Year Later…
The spotlight was on Alex last year for sure… From inventing new tricks to occupying the top spot on the podiums. He’s done a lot in 2011 and he’s definitely one to watch out for next year.
We saw the first Ride UK Game of Ride last year. With the likes of Jason Phelan, Ben Wallace, Kriss Kyle, Alex Coleborn and more battling it out for the cash prize at The Source bowl who played host!
Photo Booth: Federal X Cult Summer Tour
Last Summer the Cult and Federal teams toured the UK for 10 days. We were there on hand to cover the trip both in the mag and online, and what a banger it was!
Photo Booth: Corey Martinez Instagram
Towards the end of the year, the social networking/photo sharing app Instagram became more and more popular and we featured a Photo Booth featuring a tonne of Corey Martinez’s Instagram pictures. Enjoy.

Just before we fully sign out of 2011, we cannot forget our fellow riders that we have recently lost. R.I.P.
Here’s to 2012! Cheers.
