Back in June 2013 we featured one of the Crucial BMX riders Adam Dear in our First Look section. Adam recently embarked on a trip over to NZ to travel around and ride as much as possible and so far it seems has been having the time of his life, as you’d expect. Well a few days ago things could have taken a spectacular turn for the worse as Adam was involved in a horrendous car accident, the scale of which has left the emergency services baffled as to how anyone could survive, let alone escape with less serious injuries that a heavy trails session might leave you with.
Adam was driving home after a long shift, pulling a trailer full of marquee equipment and about to cross a bridge when he lost control, sending his truck over the crash barrier and rolling it 40 metres into the Kawarau river below, landing upside down in the shallow water. Adam thankfully remained conscious and was able to pull himself through the window of the flooded vehicle and out of the river to safety.
It truly is a miracle that Adam escaped this accident, one which I personally thought was a joke to begin with. Luckily he’s built like the Incredible Hulk and was probably eating rocks on the way down. What a hero.
After a few days rest to let his bruises heal Adam will be shredding again just like before, and we wish him all the best!
“That man should go and buy a Lotto ticket, but he hasn’t got any luck left I don’t think.”
– Arrowtown station manager Greg Potter.
