London rider Ben Green just opened a BMX specific shop Premier BMX in South London. We caught up with Ben and asked him a few questions about Premier.
When and why did you decide to start Premier?
We started making plans early last year to open a retail shop & online store based in South London.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s placed an order online, paid for it, only to receive an email telling you that the item is “out of stock” or “on back order”. When setting up Premier we wanted to build a quality shop and online store that didn’t mess riders around. We believe in giving back to BMX and supporting the scene a lot more than the large retail chains that are run by suits and shareholders! We like to think that Premier is a proper rider owned and run store that understands brands, components and what riding is all about, so when people order from us they can buy with confidence.
What have been some of the biggest obstacles starting Premier?
The energy required to refurbish and stock a shop, build the website and letting people know we are here.
Premier has quite the A-list team, how did you go about picking these guys?
When I first starting talking to riders about what we wanted to do with the shop we got overwhelming support from a lot of the biggest riders and are fortunate enough to have some of them on the team. Mike Miller, Joss Fenn, Dan Boiski and Tony Watkinson are all big names and to have their support means a lot to us. We also support local up and coming riders from around the South East.
What plans do you have for Premier? What else can we expect to see?
We have a series of exclusive web videos that I’ve been filming with our team that will be released over the Summer. Any spare footage we film is going into our ‘Premier Mixtape’ series on Vimeo. We’re also supporting local events and jams at skateparks and trails all over the South East so if you have an event coming up get in contact.
What brands are you stocking?
BMX wise we stock Cult, United, Proper, Federal, Primo, Animal, Odyssey, Profile etc all the dope brands that make good products. Streetwear wise we will have Vans, Nike, Animal, Quintin, New Era etc very soon, we feel that it’s important to have quality BMX products and also good footwear and apparel available to riders in one store.
Where is Premier based and how can we get to the shop?
Directions to the shop are on our website www.premierbmx.com. The shop is based in Caterham, Surrey (15 mins from Croydon) and is a 2-minute walk from our local indoor skatepark, Skaterham.
