BMXer Kirk Banks from Cambridgeshire was recently involved in a horrific accident whilst performing a heroic act. He dropped me a message via inbox to tell the full story. The unfortunate turn of events happened whilst he was out with friends and noticed his friend’s dog drowning in the lake just off a jetty. Kirk thought quickly and jumped straight in the water to save the dog, but during the whole ordeal, a jetski was passing and didn’t see him which resulted in Kirk losing two of his fingers.

Kirk is in good spirit and has kept his head held high throughout this whole ordeal and got a bit of help during his recovery from a BMX shop in Poole. He wanted us to give Matt Nicklen from Entity BMX Shop in a bit of a shout out for being a sound guy and helping him out, so why not! A good deed should be recognised.
“Hello mate. I don’t like asking for things but I reckon this is worthy. The other day I had a life changing accident and lost two fingers from saving a dog. But a small BMX shop has actually been a rock and kept my spirits high to get back on my bike asap. His name is Matt Nicklen and he owns Entity BMX, I’ve rode with him once and he’s truly amazing. He is sending me a care package to keep me entertained etc. He also searched for the softest grip he could find to keep me rolling. To me this is what BMX is about!! Looking after fellow brothers and sisters who love and share the same passion as each other.”
Kirk is now back in action (sort of) which is really good to see!
We hope you have a speedy recovery dude, and get back on the steed soon! – From all of us here at Ride UK
