23 Steps to Making the Most Clichéd BMX Edit of All Time

Here's how to guarantee 100% legitness

We love BMX. There are some amazing athletes out there right now and they are producing some absolutely amazing material.

Monster’s first full BMX feature ‘Above Below’ blew a lot of people away, Nigel Sylvester’s ‘Go! NYC’ brought a new take to the edit and the likes of Harry Main and Kriss Kyle are always a joy to watch.

The thing is though, the more BMX edits you watch, the more you start to notice some recurring things. We’re not hating in any way here, the majority of the things in this list are great, but if you were wondering how to make a stereotypical BMX edit, you might want to start with these points…

1) Decide whether you want to use a 2010 indie, classic rock or gangsta rap soundtrack

2) Carry your bike for a bit. Have tattoos

3) Wear a hat that’s sure to fall off… a lot

4) Cut to a landmark of the city you’re filming in

5) Include a shot of your bike dramatically propped against a wall

6) Nail an epic grind, and show a clip where your mate filming from the stairs below can be seen lying face down, holding a camera up

7) Show the subsequent clip captured by your mate lying face down, with his camera up

8) Include a shot of you looking wistfully into the horizon

9) Remember to also include whooping in the background every time a trick is landed

10) Why not add a black and white shot, or 12?

11) Cut to shot of a spinning wheel

12) Nail some awesome shots in a park where there’s football goals in the background

13) Cut to a timelapse of your respective city

14) Include a trick where you bail numerous times before making it

15) Choose to gap a staircase with virtually no room at the end

16) Cut to a lifestyle shot of you and some mates riding down a main road

17) Capture some topless riding, just for aerodynamics and cooling down and stuff

18) Cut to a security guard threatening to call the police if you don’t move on

19) Cut to opening a can of [insert sponsoring energy drink here]

20) Stomp the trick just before the police arrive

21) Loooottttssss of slooooowwww-motttiioooon

22) At some point, make sure someone squeals “What the f***ck?!!” after you land a trick

23) Close with Eighteen different camera angles of your final trick, with somehow none of the filmers appearing in any of each others shots
