“Good” BMX photography transcends the trick. It’s a composite of location, rider, setup and then the trick, or perhaps lack of rick, that really makes a good photo. A tried and tested method of many great photographers is to travel. Travelling brings you to new countries or locations with different architecture and people, and this combination will prove a challenge, by forcing you to work outside of your comfort zone. It’s in this space where you’ll often produce some of your best work, or at least learn some valuable lessons.
Cedric comes from Montpellier. A beautiful place on the southern coast of France and a city well known for its love of BMX. Cedric is a staff photographer for FISE and travels all over to cover the cycling action of the FISE World Series tour. When away on trips to cover these contests, he utilises his down-time to seek out unique spots in the cities. Taking various pro riders with him and capturing some great images.
Here are a few words from Cedric:
“2017 has been a busy one, but quite productive too. Things mostly followed the pace of the FISE World Tour and during these trips, I would seek out cool locations and spots to shoot within the cities we visited. Also, I joined my fellow Frenchmen of the Canette Life Crew on their 3 month road trip from Florida to California. Each destination was a good opportunity to ride super spots and above all to meet plenty of good people.”
“In 2018, I will stop my full time job for the FISE to start working as an independent. I will still work with FISE on the world tour but I will have much more free time to focus on personal projects such as my new portfolio website, an exhibit and some print.
Finally I really want to thank all my friends, the riders, my colleagues… and all those who helped make this year so good!” -CDR
