Day 5
Tobi had a rough night, his knee blew up to a solid pumpkin size and wasnt moving at all. It was pretty clear that he was pretty much out for the rest of the trip and could only watch his mates ride.
We wanted to get some street riding done so we followed the advice of our buddy Rob-O and drove to Fullerton again to check out a schoolyard. Fullerton Junior High, aka the banks were pretty well known but surely was offering some cool stuff. It´s one of them typical cali schools with tons of rails, stairs, banks, gaps, etc.
Vans rider Ashley Charles who was spending some time in the US joined us that day so that was pretty cool for sure.
Ash also showed us the banks at Santa Ana Civic Center later that day, a pretty nice spot with tons of banks. The best line was secured by a sharp guard though so we made the best out of it and went for a S&M party close to their warehouse. The did some autumn sale and combined it with a bbq, beers and some riding. We were a bit too late so we missed most of it already but it was still pretty cool. Thanks for the beers guys! Back to Costa Mesa – the jaccuzzi was calling!
Lets see what day 6 will bring!
Ride on!
Day 6
Last night after the hot tub and some more beers Tobi thought it might be a good idea to change his flight back home to an earlier day so he can get his knee checked. Since it was hard enough for him just joing the crew and not being able to ride it was an idea for sure. Especially THE spot for him on this trip was still to come, Riverside and San Diego and he def didnt want to suffer.
So thats what we did and changed his ticket for the next day – this day! His flight was in the afternoon so we still had some time to farewell him at HB beach. Great idea cause we saw some dophins – crazy! Quite an experience. So Tobi took off and the rest of the crew drove 1,5 hours to Riverside to meet up with Heath Pinter and Gary Young at the Paxton trails. Gary came all the way from San Diego together with Hoang Tran and Josh and even later Luke Parslow and TJ Ellis came by so a great session was on!
Paxton´s trails is a pretty tight set up with lots od speed sections and kickers that send you to the moon. It was pretty cool to see Kevin and Ben ride there, even Bruno wasnt bothered to give it try and added dirt as a new terrain he likes to ride. Riding there brakeless is a challenge for sure. Of course Lonnie Paxton´s set up is pretty nuts in general with his garden, pool and the open bar” haha! Thanks Heath and Lonnie!
After it got dark we still wanted to ride so we took the invite of Xavier Mendez back at the S&M party to join him and some others at the new Fontana Skatepark. Fontana is quite in the back country, at least I figured it that way, so we were amazed by that fresh park. It had everything what a great concrete park could possibly offer. A pool with a deep end, smaller bowl, bowl landscape and some cool street plaza stuff too. It was bmx night but not that many riders were there so it was awesome to share that space with just a few cool dudes. Xavier came by with his son, so cool to see a daddy riding with his son. And also the legendary officer Blyther himself was there and joind the session. That was def an awesome night! Funniest moment for me was when local kids recognized Bruno and were totally stoked and asked for autographs but totally ignored guys like Ben Hennon or even Brian Blyther!! Haha, classic.
Word!
