Visiting Cornwall this summer? You’re going to need this…

Chico talks about his latest project

We’ve all been on a trip before where something happens, and just like that… the plans out the window (or maybe you just didn’t have a plan in the first place) …and then you’re sat googling what parks are close by, trying to find a name, sifting through terrible pictures to find one that can help you make an educated decision as to whether its worth it or not and then trying to find a postcode …..well Chico Hooke of TwoAnd8 recently he reached out about his latest project, self started purely for the sake of BMX. A must have for anyone wanting to explore Cornwall this summer.

Where did you live before? Did the parks in Cornwall play into you decision to move that way?

I was living in South Bucks close to London before moving to Cornwall. My girlfriend Abi who did all the design work on the map, lives in Cornwall so I moved in with her.

How did this all start?

I moved down just over a year ago and started visiting skateparks in the area. I was surprised at how many there were, it soon became a mission to visit them all. I photographed and documented them and made an Instagram account @cornwallskateparksThen people started to comment to say how great it was as a tool while visiting Cornwall and local people got in touch to suggest ones I may have missed. The enthusiasm of people’s response led to the idea of making a physical map. Putting the map together was great fun and a learning curve for myself and my partner Abi who did all the designing. We managed to get some great advertisers on board. We’re grateful for their support and helping us to get the map to print.

Seems like a massive undertaking but have you had any future thoughts to do any other places or is this a special one and done for you?

The plan is to keep updating it each year as new parks get built. We know of at least 3 new parks planned for Cornwall for the coming year. Since producing the Cornwall Map we have had several requests for a Devon map which we are starting to get together and also one for London.

A physical map is a game changer for when you’re on a road trip, what has the feedback been like now were getting into the summer months?

To be honest the feedback has been quite overwhelming, people are really stoked on it. The response when we first stated the instagram was really good both from locals suggesting parks and visitors discovering new parks they hadn’t heard of

Where can people get hold of one?

They are available for free from shops, coffee shops and leisure spaces all over Cornwall. Or you can visit www.twoand8.com and order one for a small postage charge. A copy of the map is also included with any purchase from TWOAND8.
