BUTCHER JAM 2022: Gallery

Well, the Germans know how to put on a BMX jam!

2022 saw the return of the infamous Butcher Jam. A stacked riders list competing in street, park, dirt and (the almost forgotten about discipline) spine mini filled the schedule.

The street jam kicked off proceedings on the Friday night. A purpose built street course full of ledges and even a car gap saw for some great riding. The ghetto feel to the park definitely made for some interesting combos. Crank arm to tailwhip, pegs hard 3s and long manny lines were amongst the hammers thrown down by the mostly German riders. This comp faded into a lot of drinking and partying fuelled by the local Flensberg beer…

Saturday consisted of qualifying in the park and spine. Amateur followed by Pro. The support that the crowd showed the young riders was amazing and the camaraderie shown between the beginners was truly moving.

After the amateurs it was time for the pros to battle it out for a spot in Sunday’s finals. Spine was a highlight for me. The close crowd and fast paced action made for some great viewing.

That evening the dirt competition finished off the day. I don’t know what I was expecting as most riders had been riding all day, in multiple disciplines. I thought it would be tough going. How wrong I was… Everyone went HAM. The tricks were next level! And the crowd fully got behind them. What an end to the day.

Sunday’s finals were nothing short of spectacular. It had clouded over slightly as the 2 days prior had been scorchers. The women’s competition saw a great bunch of riders sending some crazy tricks.

The spine competition went off with young german Lennox being a crowd favourite. He boosted so high. The UK and USA riders tore it a new one. Especially with their best tricks. It was super close between the top 5 riders with our boy Kieran Reilly taking the win.

The final park competition didn’t disappoint either. Again the crowd got behind local guy Paul Thoelen doing it for the style guys. He won high air and got a sick prize of a ride in an aquaplane around the local area. Jacob Theim took top spot with a plethora of fast paced combos.

All in all the vibe was such a family feel. Everybody was super friendly and supportive and I hope I get the chance to go again.
