Anyone that remembers our Reservoir Dogs featuring Bas Keep, Dan Lacey and Ben Hennon will know just how MASSIVE this thing is. It’s Victorian architectural brilliance would’ve had no clue that years down the line this reservoir would be a BMXers dream. But I don’t think anyone, BMXer or not, would’ve imagined Flip dropping the thing. That is unless your name is Ryan Taylor of course. Here, Ryan dices with death as he eventually nails it on a windy day up North. We thought it was pretty crazy and wanted to ask him a few questions on WTF he was thinking!
So Ryan – This stunt, really. WTF were you thinking? It’s huge!
Haha! From seeing the reservoir in Previous videos & Photographs it put a vibe on things where people couldn’t really go there, Hadn’t seen anything from there in so long so I thought what better to do than do the flair drop in to it.
How did it compare to other big flair drops you’ve done? Surely the elements must have made a big difference?
Well considering I’m used to a nice smooth wooden top deck & that had bricks with old cement stuck to it on parts that were crucial, Let’s just say it was quite a difference hahaha. ( I’m alive tho ).
We’ve all seen the groundbreaking ‘Reservoir Dogs’ edit with Sebastian Keep, Hennon and Lacey but not really seen that place since. How did you find it and how did you know it was still there?
Yes!! That video was epic! It showed a true look into the reservoir and they were the guys to introduce it for sure. I text Bas before and asked for the location but I never got round to it. This time I text him and I was already up north so there was no excuses haha, Shout out to Bas Keep for being A all around great person! Thanks Bas.
Did you just have the flair drop in mind or did you have a plan B if the drop was a scratch?
Honestly, I took a Motorbike with me as well, I wanted to do a triple Whip air, The wind was just way to powerful! Bas told me I needed the motorbike for speed but I didn’t have intentions of doing anything else after the flair drop because Bas did it all 🙂
How do you mentally prepare to do it? Do you have any personal rituals you go through?
Nah man, that’s nonsense, Just get it done init!
How is everything going with your brand Industry by the way?
Things are looking good and we have a new complete bike in testing. But to be honest, the business side of things Aren’t anywhere near were they should be, BMX is slowing down so much lately and everyone is feeling the landslide. Not a good place to be in, but like everything, I’m sure we will all get through it.
What are the future plans for Industry and Ryan Taylor?
Hopefully I can keep pushing industry the way I want to and make some fresh products. We just had a contest for the Kids & were picking the winners really soon, hopefully help bring some nippers up!
& Myself, I’ve been super busy with my clothing brand as well, It’s taken over my life man, I Just got another business partner involved who’s going to help us reach the targets a lot sooner than what I could by myself. The relaunch is coming soon, so stay tuned, because what’s going to happen has never been done before, & other than that man, I’m just riding hard all the time, constantly pushing myself and progressing. Croatia, Latvia, Poland & Italy this month as well, so pretty hectic month. Haha!
