Odessa Obstacle Onslaught Jam

Here’s the edit, photo gallery and below an awesome write up of the recent Odessa Obstacle Onslaught Jam.

The Odessa Obstacle Onslaught was devised back in 2010 by our riders and us as a few hours of fun taking place at varying skateparks through Devon, including Paignton Skatepark, Parkfield, Newton Abbot & Exeter Flowerpot.

The goal was to put together a jam that could appeal to all ages and abilities, and not just credit the best, but riders who try their hardest and push themselves to learn new tricks.

The riders involvement has always been key, we always tried to make it relaxed and not too corporate, just a selection of the available Odessa Team Riders turning up at a park and getting everyone involved.

The premise is to session different obstacles for a set amount of time, everyone has a chance to run at each obstacle, everyone has a chance to have their moment, and the Riders can also offer help, advice and a bit of banter.

At grassroots level the younger lads have the Odessa riders to aspire to and ask questions about their own development, whilst also giving them that extra confidence to join in. The person who goes really hard gets a prize from the Odessa stall.

We have managed to gain support from the brands that we stock in our stores, the likes of vans, innercity, new era, mi pac, famous stars and straps and water from Tarka Springs. Along with a load of chuck outs to the crowd we had hoods, tees, shoes, caps and loads of stuff up for grabs.

There has always been an Odessa rider on the mic or megaphone, starting with Dolphin and Sam Jennings and this years events had Scott Hamlin MCing, he did an awesome job of praising and winding up in equal quantity to ensure a high level of fun.

As we have polished the events, we have added those finishing touches for the competitors; DJ and music, free food and refreshments.
Plans for next year are to take the event around the UK, we will be stopping at all the Odessa Team riders locals and putting on an event. – Dominic Cooper
