The Olympic Freestyle BMX debut has now happened… Tokyo 2020, UCI, all the organisers, judges, and especially the riders made BMX look damn good in front of the largest audience it’s ever had. That’s something to be proud of.
Sure, there’s always an argument against something traditionally underground like BMX being touted at the mainstream, but whichever way you look at it, BMX park riding did itself justice in Tokyo. I’m very proud to say that a significant part of that great global impression was down to the UK riders, the Team GB guys, Charlotte Worthington, Declan Brooks, James Jones, Jamie Bestwick and Rich King.
We loved watching it all live on TV, but now it’s time to look through some fine stills from practice, seeding and finals, shot by the man Hikaru Funyu. Beautiful riding shots, portraits, behind the scenes, raw emotions, wins and losses: here are 100 images of Freestyle BMX Park at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
