SPOT CHECK: Ghetto Park, Grimsby

Ghetto Park in Grimsby has somewhat slipped under the radar as a skatepark.  The skatepark has in fact been open for over 6 years.  We went over there to see what this lesser known skatepark had to offer.

Ghetto Park skatepark is, quite unusually, situated on a high street.  Every other skatepark I’ve ever been to has been in an industrial estate, but Ghetto Park actually sits in an old Netto shop.  Remnants of the shop floor can be spotted around the building.

The park has 3 areas, the first a fenced off toddler area, next a youngsters ‘training’ area and finally the main skatepark area.  These lower skill and age level areas are great as they keep all of the young scooter riders away from the main skatepark.  This avoids the inevitable crashes that happen at most parks where all skills and ages share the one space.

The majority of the park is made up by the rhythm section.  This section consists of 3 boxes to a vert wall, some funky steep transitioned roller followed by another 2 boxes.  The last box is the largest, with a roller landing.  This leads back to the starting 8ft quarter which you can either fly out onto or air and go again.

Next to that is the smaller section roughly 4ft in size, with a mini ramp at one end which flows into a volcano and spox set up.  This section is super fun and tight.  A spox (spine/box) is a rare sight in skateparks nowadays.

At the far end of the park is a resi jump…  For all you resi bashers out there to post your newest learn straight to the gram.  It’s smaller than most resi setups out there but would give the lesser confident riders the courage to start sending some tricks.

The park in all is very simple and on the smaller side of things.  This doesn’t stop it from being a fun little park though.  If you are in the Grimsby area, definitely give it a try.
